Book Editing
Professional writers agree that their Editors are critical to the success of their books. It is almost impossible to be objective about one’s own writing. You’re too close to it, too involved with it, and you’ve read it over a thousand times. You need an objective eye to help you make your book the best it can be: you need an Editor!
An experienced Editor will proofread your work to pick up typos and small errors in spelling, punctuation, or grammar. She will copy edit to make certain that phrasing is smooth, narrative flows consistently, and finer points of style are observed. And she will provide insightful editorial suggestions for general improvement of your manuscript. The Editor will work closely with you to see that your book reads clearly, while always maintaining your personal style.
Editing charges are based on the number of words submitted for editing, rather than on the length of the manuscript after editing. The longer your manuscript, the cheaper the rate per word will be. Because the style and size of pages can vary widely, we quote rates by the number of words, rather than the number of pages submitted for editing.
All rates are quoted in US dollars. Minimum charge is $30. Payment is made through PayPal.
All manuscripts will receive:
- Basic Proofreading – check for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, word usage, paragraph indentation, etc.
- Copy Editing – with line rewriting and limited reorganization where necessary, to ensure that the narrative flows smoothly and consistently, and that your own unique “voice” is maintained after editing
- Editorial Comments and Suggestions for Clarification of Text – inserted into text for your ease in considering them, with an eye to clarity and finer points of style.
Manuscripts up to
3000 words = US $0.04 (four cents) per word (minimum charge of $30 applies to shorter manuscripts)
3,100 and 10,000 words = US $0.025 (two and a half cents) per word
10,100 and 50,000 words = US $0.0175 (one and three-quarters cents) per word.
Manuscripts longer than 50,000 words will be considered and priced on an individual basis.
Your complete satisfaction is our goal. In most cases, writers are happy with the edited results of their books. Occasionally, they wish minor changes of the edit. No additional charge is made in this case. If a writer wishes to insert new material after the first edit is complete, or if substantial reworking is desired after the first edit, further charges are negotiated. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that a completed manuscript be submitted at the beginning.
Book Formatting
If you respect your readers enough to offer them a book that’s the very best it can be, they will be glad to spend their money in buying it and their time in reading it.
The interior and exterior design of a book is what first captures the attention of a potential reader. A professional designer can create exactly the right cover for your book – an expression of your vision and a foretaste of what the book contains, all at a single glance.
The cover of your book encourages the reader to select it from a shelf full of other books. For the online shopper, it’s the cover of your book amid the other cover images that makes it stand out from all the rest.
Interior design, or formatting, is just as important to the overall appearance of your book as cover design. For example, many fonts are available to express the “personality” of your work. A professional designer can show you several selections that will make the text of your book look its most appealing.
Professional formatting makes the difference between a book that looks inexpertly produced and a book that rivals the best offerings of the “traditional” publishing houses.
Formatting cost depends on the final number of pages in the book. (The number pages in the final format of the print ready pdf).

Cover Designing
There are two types of cover designs, Simple and Illustrated.
A Simple Design is created from licensed or royalty free photo images, and has a fixed cost of US $65.
An Illustrated Design requires customized illustration by our designer, and — depending on the complexity of the design — has an approximate cost of between US $165 -$200.

Once your Editor has polished your prose, our Designer and Formatter will prepare your text for publication, and will design a cover for your book, in consultation with you. After formatting, your Editor will do a final review (at no extra charge) to be sure the integrity of the text has been preserved. And finally, once your book has been published, your Marketing Director will assist you with publicizing it and increasing sales.
