If I make suggestions and offer ideas for my book’s cover design or illustrations, will these be taken into account?
Certainly! Our goal is to work closely with each client throughout the publishing process. We want to make sure your unique “voice” is preserved in your book, and that your cover design and illustrations express your vision. Our Editor and Designer are happy to discuss any aspect of your book’s production with you as we go along, to ensure that the book you hold in your hands at the end of the process is exactly the book you’ve dreamed of giving to the world.
Why is payment in advance required for editing and formatting services? What percentage of the total price is required in advance?
PublishingGurus does not use an escrow service, which would accept payment from the client and release it to us. Such a service would guarantee that we would receive payment for our work. To keep costs down, we divide the total payment into an Advance Payment component and a Remaining Payment component.
Editing: Our editor quotes a total price for Editing, based on the number of words in the original manuscript submitted. The client pays a 25% advance. When this initial payment has been received, the Editor completes approximately 25% of the work and submits it to the client for approval. Any minor changes required by the client are made at this time. The Remaining Payment is then deposited (arrangements for spreading out this payment may be negotiated with the Editor). Upon deposit of the Remaining Payment, the rest of the editing work is completed and submitted to the client. Again, minor changes will be made at no charge.
Please note: If a client wishes to insert new material after the first edit is complete, or if substantial reworking is desired after the first edit, further charges are negotiated. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that a completed manuscript be submitted at the beginning.
Formatting: The total price quote for Formatting is based on the number of pages in the fully-edited manuscript. The client pays a 25% advance. Once the advance is deposited into our account, the Formatter completes the work, and submits a COPY of the work to the client for approval. At this stage, we will make any changes required.
Please note: When Formatting is completed, the Editor provides a final review of the formatted book at no extra charge, to make certain everything is perfect. Any Formatting problems will be resolved. When the client is satisfied with the work, he or she deposits the Remaining Payment of 75% in our account. We then upload the final print-ready file for the client.
This system ensures that we will receive payment, and that there is no risk to the client. The bulk of the fee is paid only when the client is completely satisfied with the finished work.
How do I pay for the services?
Payment is made through PayPal, at www.paypal.com. You need to have a PayPal account. Creating an account on PayPal is free.
PayPal is the safer, easier way to pay. You can use your credit card or bank account without exposing your account numbers. You can link your credit card or bank account to your PayPal account so you don’t have to enter your card number or address everywhere you shop online. Just log in to PayPal and quickly check out, with just a few clicks.
When you make a payment for our editing/designing services, select SERVICES as your payment type.
Select either Instant Transfer or Credit Card Payment through PayPal as a Payment Mode.
We cannot accept eChecks at this time because of the delay involved. Until your payment is confirmed, we cannot provide you with your completed work.
Look at PayPal’s website to learn more about how these options work.
For all other options there are PayPal buttons provided on different pages of the site.
Why is there no Shopping Cart System?
We are currently exploring our options for a cart system. It will soon be available on this website. Till then, we will be taking payments directly through PayPal.
Why is there a shipping charge for the Free Business Cards?
When we provide 200 free business cards, the shipping is an expense to us. We therefore have to make a flat-rate charge for shipping, which includes packaging. Shipping costs increase if extra cards are ordered.
I live in India. Can I order the Free Business Cards?
Currently, the Free Cards offer is only available for clients in the USA. As we begin this new expansion of PublishingGurus, most of our past and current clients are from this country. In the near future, we will make this option available to clients in all other countries, including India.
If I pay the $50 Store Fee, will my book automatically be selected for the Showcase Web Store?
We review all books not published by our company whose authors wish to be part of our Showcase Web Store. Our focus is QUALITY. If we find that your book could be improved by proper professional editing and formatting, we will recommend these services to you. After editing and/or formatting are complete, we will review your book once more. If it is found to meet our standards of QUALITY, we will be happy to include it in our Store.
If you elect not to choose editing and/or formatting, as recommended, we will refund the $50 you have paid upon submission of your book for inclusion in the Store.
This rigorous requirement is necessary so that we can offer only the best books to readers.

What is an Exclusive Publishing Contract?
According to this contract, you will not be able to publish your book with any other publishing house once you have published it with Publishing Gurus.
Occasionally, if we believe that a particular book has the potential to become a big best seller, we will offer the Author this exclusive contract. If the Author agrees, we will market the book with our full potential and make sure that is it carried by “regular” brick-and-mortar bookstores. If the book does become an outstanding seller, both you as the Author and we as the Publisher will benefit financially.
With an exclusive contract, we as the Publisher will retain 100% of all rights and copyright licenses to the manuscript and all other materials you submit to PublishingGurus.com, and also the liability pertaining to them.
What is a Non-Exclusive Publishing Contract?
We provide you a non-exclusive contract, which means you are free to publish your book with another publisher as well, provided their contract with you is also non-exclusive. If not, then we will have to remove our imprint from your book, and our contract with you as an author will be null and void.
You, as Author, retain 100% of all rights and copyright licenses to the manuscript and all other materials you submit to PublishingGurus. com, and also the liability pertaining to them. PublishingGurus will not be liable for any copyright infringements or plagiarism suits regarding your books. Authors are directly responsible for the content published with us.
Why are there two different Publishing Contracts?
Today, the Print-on-Demand revolution has changed traditional publishing completely. In 2009, about 764,500 books were self-published, vs. approximately 288,000 traditionally published, according to Publishers’ Weekly figures. Yet bookstores still mostly accept books published by traditional publishers through distributors or agents. Moving forward with present-day methods, but keeping in mind the importance bookstores still have in our lives, PublishingGurus is a fusion of both the old and new publishing types.
We only accept good books. Perhaps a few of them will be best sellers – but what about the rest? All Authors would like to earn money from the sale of their books. The best option for most Authors will therefore be to sign a non-exclusive contract, giving them the option to publish their books as well with other publishing houses providing a similar non-exclusive contract.
Our focus on quality means that the books we select and publish will sell; so whichever of the two contracts you select, you will make money from your work, and so will PublishingGurus.
This is a win-win situation for Authors who publish with us.
What Royalties are there on Published Books?
If you choose PublishingGurus.com to publish your book, whether with a non-exclusive contract or an exclusive contract, we are liable to sell the books and to share the royalties with you. The percentage of royalty depends on the book’s content, its target market, and its general appeal. Royalties will be discussed and decided with the Author while signing the contract. You, as the Author, always have the final decision on this matter.
The Web Store Page says, “No part of your royalties will ever go to PublishingGurus.” Then how can you take out profits, or pay Authors Royalties from the sales of books?
Your Publishing Contract and our Showcase Web Store are two different entities.
If your book is selected for our Showcase Web Store, PublishingGurus will take no part of the royalties from sales of your book through the Store. We have no connection with other online stores to which your book is linked.
But when you sign a Publishing Contract with PublishingGurus, we will market your book online and offline, and PublishingGurus will pay you royalties from sales we make, according to the terms agreed upon in your contract.
So, when your book is published by PublishingGurus, it will be placed in the Web Store FREE. PublishingGurus take no royalty out of any Store sales through other online stores to which you’re linked.
However, any direct sale through our marketing efforts entitles both the Author and PublishingGurus to Royalties, according to the contract.
Why does my book page in the Store have no Editorial Reviews?
Currently, Editorial Reviews are provided only for books published by PublishingGurus. In the future, we may be able to offer Editorial Reviews for all books in the Store.
